Making Your Space Work for You

At Interstate Storage, we have a space for almost any need. Plastic bins full of old pictures or childhood toys you want to save for grandbaby? Motorcycle or kayak? Classic car or a house-full of furniture? We have a space for all of it. What I’d like to talk about today is how you can make whatever space you need, work best for you! Listed below are a few helpful pieces of advice to make storing your things a fun puzzle of organization instead of a jumbled mess you fear will collapse the second you close your door!

• Boxes: label them on every side, think about how much time you spend digging through boxes, only to realize what you’re looking for was in the box you took out and set to the side twenty minutes ago!
• Boxes: buy stackable boxes! Nothing is worse than trying to balance everything on that tiny little shoe box at the bottom of the pile, shutting the door, and then hearing everything tumble down; leaving a mess for you (or my wife) to clean up the next time you need something.
• Seasonal Organizing: this is exactly how it sounds, organize your things by seasons! This way, you can rotate your space as the year goes on, replace your holiday decorations with your patio furniture, and vice versa. Replace your beach toys with your winter boots.
• Lighting: If you rent at Interstate Storage, chances are you have some chicken wire rooving your storage space, one short bungee chord and a flashlight works as a makeshift light fixture if you decide you need more lighting to sort through your space, just don’t forget the batteries!

I’m sure you’ve heard most, if not all, of this advice before. I just wanted to be the one to push you over the edge into actually deciding to go ahead and spend the extra five bucks on some tape and a sharpie to make sure your boxes are labeled, or just to have some sense of organization in your space, saving you time and a headache!
