Opening the Door for The Open Door

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and you know what that means; lining up for those sweet sweet Black Friday deals at four in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day! But really Thanksgiving is about giving thanks, and giving to others. That’s why starting today, through December 22nd Interstate Storage is partnering with The Open Door, a local organization dedicated to ending local hunger through access to healthy food. You can help! We’ll have donation boxes located in our drive through and office, open seven days a week.

How would pilgrims have gotten grapes to the first Thanksgiving? Didn’t they spend months crossing the ocean?

The Open Door was founded in the hopes of helping those above the poverty line but just a few steps away from economic stability.

Below I’ll list a few of The Open Door’s most sought after items:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned Tuna or Chicken
  • Vegetable oil (16-48 oz bottles)
  • 100% Fruit Juice (64 oz bottles)
  • Toilet Paper

That just a few, though! The Open Door also accepts dried goods like rice, pasta, or pancake mix; fresh and perishable items like eggs, potatoes, or oranges; and even toiletries like shampoo, toothbrushes, or deodorant!

If you don’t feel compelled to donate on your own, we’ll sweeten the pot for you: any new customer who donates to either The Open Door or our Toys for Tots drive will receive $10 in credit towards their rental, plus a ticket in our drawing for one of three Visa gift cards, one for $25, $50, and $100!

For more information on The Open Door just visit theopendoorpantry.org, or stop by either their Apple Valley or Eagan pantry locations!
